Quick answer

AppFollow is a review management platform with an ASO module. Its ASO plan is $29 per month for 2 apps and only 30 days of history, and a full year of history costs $179. Applyra is the indie AppFollow alternative: $9.99 flat for unlimited apps, keywords and competitors, with full history and no review desk you are not using.

Applyra vs AppFollow - indie ASO tool compared to a review management platform

Open AppFollow's pricing page and count what the money actually buys. Manual replies. Automated replies. An AI support agent. Agent performance. Sentiment tags. Zendesk, Salesforce and Slack integrations.

That is not an ASO tool with reviews attached. That is a review and reputation platform, and a good one, with an ASO module living inside it.

Which is fine, unless you are a solo developer who came looking for keyword rankings. Then you are being priced against a support desk you will never open.

TL;DR

AppFollow's ASO plan is $29/mo for 2 apps, 500 keywords and 30 days of history. A year of history starts at $179/mo. Applyra is $9.99/mo flat for unlimited apps, keywords and competitors, with full history, CSV and PDF export, an API and an MCP server.

What AppFollow actually sells

AppFollow launched in 2015 out of Helsinki and now covers four things:

  1. Review management: replies, automated replies, translation, spam reporting.
  2. Support automation: an AI support agent, agent performance metrics, helpdesk routing.
  3. Reputation analytics: sentiment tags, semantic tags, wordclouds, anomaly detection.
  4. ASO: keyword tracking, ASO reports, an app update timeline, organic traffic.

It also reaches beyond the two big stores, into the Microsoft Store, Xbox, Amazon Appstore, the Samsung Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Steam and Trustpilot. Worth knowing where that sits on the ladder: Microsoft, Xbox and Amazon arrive on the $599 Team plan, and Samsung and Huawei on Enterprise.

Three of those four pillars are about what happens after someone installs your app. That is the product's centre of gravity, and it shows in how the plans are cut: the ladder is built around reply quotas and seats, not around keywords.

Yearly billing is discounted, and there is usually a promotion running on the Team tier. Take the monthly list prices as the honest baseline.

The 30-day problem

The $29 ASO plan is the only tier priced for an individual, and it stores 30 days of history.

ASO does not happen in 30 days. You change your subtitle, you wait two weeks for the store to settle, you wait another two to see whether the ranking held. By the time you have an answer, the beginning of the experiment has aged out of your window. Seasonality is invisible. A release from six weeks ago may as well not have happened.

The fix inside AppFollow is Essential at $179/mo, which is a 6x jump to buy a calendar. And you are not paying 6x for history alone: you are paying for review translation, an AI support agent, agent performance and helpdesk integrations, whether or not you answer a single review.

What history is actually for

Keyword tracking without history tells you where you rank. Keyword tracking with history tells you what you did to get there. The second one is the entire point, and it is the first thing a cheap tier removes.

Where Applyra sits

One plan. $9.99 a month. Unlimited apps, unlimited keywords, unlimited competitors, and history that does not expire.

There is no tier decision to make, because there are no tiers. You do not model whether 500 keywords is enough, or discover at keyword 501 that the next step up costs six times more.

When AppFollow is the better buy

I would rather you picked the right tool than the cheaper one, so here is where AppFollow wins outright.

You answer reviews. Not occasionally, as a workflow. Reply templates, automated responses, translation, routing into Zendesk or Salesforce, per-agent performance. Applyra does not do any of this and is not trying to. If your store reviews are a support channel, AppFollow is one of the best tools for it.

You ship outside the App Store and Google Play. AppFollow tracks the Microsoft Store, Xbox, Amazon Appstore, Samsung Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Steam and Trustpilot. Applyra covers the two big stores and nothing else. If your reviews are spread across five storefronts, that is a real gap and no amount of flat pricing closes it.

You are a team with a reputation mandate. Exec reports, anomaly detection, SSO, an SLA, a success manager. That is a real need at a certain size, and it is priced accordingly.

When Applyra is the better buy

You want keywords, not a support desk. The whole product is keyword tracking, competitor analysis, visibility scoring and AI suggestions. There is nothing else to pay for.

You need history on day one. Full ranking history on the $9.99 plan, not 30 days, not as a $179 upgrade.

You ship more than two apps. The AppFollow ASO tier caps at 2. If you have a small portfolio, the next tier up is $179.

You work inside an AI editor. Applyra ships an MCP server, so Claude or Cursor can query your rankings, competitors and metadata without leaving your editor.

The honest summary

AppFollow is a strong product aimed at a real problem: reviews at scale, answered by a team, measured properly. If that is your problem, buy it.

If your problem is that you do not know which keywords your app ranks for and whether last month's metadata change helped, you are looking at a $29 plan that keeps 30 days of history, or a $179 plan that bundles a support desk you will not open.

That is the gap Applyra was built for. One plan, $9.99, unlimited everything, and history that goes back as far as your app does.

Frequently asked questions

How much does AppFollow cost?

AppFollow has a free plan, then an ASO plan at $29 per month covering 2 apps, 500 keywords and 30 days of history. Essential is $179 per month for 5 apps, 3,000 keywords and 365 days of history. Team is $599 per month for 15 apps and 9,000 keywords. Enterprise is contact-sales. Prices are listed per month and yearly billing is discounted.

Does AppFollow have a free plan?

Yes, covering 2 apps and 500 keywords, but it keeps only 7 days of history. That is enough to see where you rank today and not enough to see a trend or to tell whether a metadata change worked, which is the question ASO actually asks. The paid step to 30 days is $29 per month.

Is Applyra a real AppFollow alternative?

For the ASO half, yes. Both track keyword rankings on the App Store and Google Play, watch competitors, and monitor your listing. AppFollow adds review replies, automated responses, an AI support agent and helpdesk integrations. Applyra does none of that, and it costs $9.99 flat with unlimited keywords and full history.

When is AppFollow the better choice?

When reviews are the job. If you answer store reviews at volume, route them through Zendesk or Salesforce, measure agent performance, or need automated replies across a portfolio, AppFollow is built for exactly that and Applyra has no equivalent.

What is the catch with AppFollow's ASO plan?

Thirty days of history and a 2-app ceiling. ASO is measured in months, so a 30-day window cannot show you seasonality or whether the release you shipped six weeks ago moved anything. Getting a year of history means jumping from $29 to $179 per month, and that tier is priced around the review desk, not around keywords.

Does Applyra do review management?

No. Applyra is an ASO tool: keyword tracking, competitor analysis, visibility scoring and AI metadata suggestions on both stores. If replying to reviews is a core part of your workflow you need a separate tool, and AppFollow is one of the best at it.
